{"id":2483,"date":"2023-01-11T10:58:46","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T10:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2023-01-11T10:58:46","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T10:58:46","slug":"sweet-and-spicy-sticky-tofu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/sweet-and-spicy-sticky-tofu\/general\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweet and spicy sticky tofu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is made possible by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\">BBC<\/a> Foods!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-ingredients__heading gel-double-pica\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 block (approximately 300g\/10\u00bdoz) firm\u00a0tofu, drained and pressed for 10 minutes<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">6 tbsp\u00a0cornflour<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tbsp\u00a0soy sauce<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tbsp\u00a0vegetable oil, plus extra for shallow frying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">For the sweet and sour sauce<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tsp\u00a0cornflour<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tsp\u00a0vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2\u00a0garlic\u00a0cloves, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp grated fresh root\u00a0ginger, or more, to taste<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd tsp dried\u00a0chilli\u00a0flakes or 1 tsp sriracha\u00a0chilli\u00a0sauce, to taste<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tbsp\u00a0tomato pur\u00e9e<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">4 tbsp\u00a0sugar<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tbsp\u00a0soy sauce<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tbsp\u00a0rice vinegar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">To serve<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">spring onions, chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">sesame seeds<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">lime\u00a0wedges<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">cooked\u00a0rice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-method__heading gel-double-pica\">Method<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"recipe-method__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">To make the sweet and sour sauce, mix the cornflour and 120ml\/4fl oz water in a small bowl.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"recipe-method__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Set aside.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Heat the oil in a small saucepan over a medium heat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Add the garlic, ginger and chilli flakes and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Then whisk in the remaining sauce ingredients and the cornflour mixture and bring to the boil.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Cook for a minute until thickened, then remove from the heat.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"recipe-method__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Set aside.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Cut the tofu into 2cm\/\u00bein cubes. Place the cornflour, soy sauce and oil in a bowl and mix well to create a batter.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Add the tofu cubes and stir until coated in the batter.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Heat some oil in a frying pan over a medium\u2013high heat.
