{"id":1923,"date":"2022-06-23T09:10:11","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T09:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/?p=1923"},"modified":"2022-06-23T08:03:30","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T08:03:30","slug":"goan-fish-curry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/goan-fish-curry\/indian\/","title":{"rendered":"Goan fish curry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is made possible by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\">BBC<\/a> Food!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-ingredients__heading gel-double-pica\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">650g\/1lb 7oz\u00a0sea bream, monkfish, cod, or haddock, cut into thick steaks (see tip)<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bc tsp ground\u00a0turmeric<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">pinch\u00a0salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">For the paste<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">70g\/2\u00bdoz fresh or frozen\u00a0coconut, grated<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp ground\u00a0turmeric<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">5mm\/\u00bcin fresh root\u00a0ginger, peeled and roughly chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp mild\u00a0chilli powder<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 bird\u2019s-eye\u00a0chillies\u00a0(use 1 if you prefer it less spicy)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">For the curry<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">3 tbsp\u00a0vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">90g\/3\u00bcoz\u00a0onion, finely chopped (approx. 1 small\u00a0onion)<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp\u00a0sugar<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">150ml\/5fl oz\u00a0coconut milk<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp\u00a0tamarind\u00a0paste<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">salt and freshly ground\u00a0black pepper<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">chopped\u00a0fresh coriander, to garnish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-method__heading gel-double-pica\">Method<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Place the fish on a plate and use the turmeric and salt, don&#8217;t add too much! Mix well and set aside.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">For the paste, add all the ingredients to a blender or food processor along with 100ml water.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Blend till smooth paste!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">To make the curry, heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions and fry for 12 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Fry for 4 minutes until the paste dries out. Now add 100ml water, season with salt and pepper, and add the sugar.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Give the saucepan a swirl so you don&#8217;t break the fish steaks. Turn the heat to low and simmer with the lid on for 4 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Add the coconut milk and tamarind paste. Stir gently and continue to simmer for 9 minutes until the fish is completely cooked.
