{"id":1654,"date":"2022-04-01T11:26:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T11:26:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/?p=1654"},"modified":"2022-04-01T11:26:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T11:26:27","slug":"fried-chicken-sandwich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/fried-chicken-sandwich\/general\/","title":{"rendered":"Fried Chicken Sandwich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This recipe is courtesy of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/food\/recipes\/\">BBC GoodFood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-ingredients__heading gel-double-pica\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">For the pink-pickled onions<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd\u00a0red onion, thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">red wine vinegar\u00a0or lime juice to cover<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">For the fried chicken<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">75ml\/2\u00bdfl oz kefir,\u00a0buttermilk or plain yogurt<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd tsp hot\u00a0smoked paprika, plus \u00bc tsp for the coating<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd tsp fine\u00a0sea salt, plus \u00bc tsp for the coating<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp\u00a0lemon juice<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd tsp\u00a0Dijon mustard<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bd tsp\u00a0maple syrup<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 fat\u00a0garlic\u00a0clove, finely grated<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 small boneless\u00a0chicken thigh\u00a0fillet, skin removed<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">4\u20135 tbsp\u00a0plain flour<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">sunflower oil\u00a0for deep-frying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"recipe-ingredients__sub-heading gel-great-primer-bold\">To serve<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">4 tbsp garlic\u00a0mayonnaise<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tsp crispy chili oil or other chili sauce<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">\u00bc tsp\u00a0honey<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1\u00a0burger bun, split, or 2 slices of white bread<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">a few leaves of iceberg lettuce<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">kimchi\u00a0or pickles of your choice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-method__heading gel-double-pica\">Method<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Make your pickled onions in advance: at least 2 hours before doing this, and up to 24. Put the onion into a jar and cover with the vinegar, or lemon juice depends what you have, pressing down on the onions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pour the yogurt into a small dish and stir in \u00bd teaspoon of paprika, \u00bd teaspoon of salt, lemon juice, mustard, maple syrup, and garlic. Add the chicken and turn to coat in the marinade ensuring all sides are covered before using. Cover the dish, then leave it in the fridge for at least 4 hours or up to 2 days.<\/li>\n<li>Doing everything in advance would be better than attempting this by yourself, therefore if you have done all the steps so far, listen to the up to 4 hours and wait that long.<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">After waiting the 4 hours or 2 days, take the chicken out of the fridge in good time to get to room temperature before you start to cook it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Mix the flour with the remaining \u00bc teaspoon of paprika and salt in a dish. Lift the chicken out of the marinade. Make sure not to shake it off at all. Dredge both sides of the chicken in flour, then dip briefly back into the marinade and dredge again. You can leave the coated chicken in the flour dish until you fry it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Mix the garlic mayonnaise with the chili oil and honey, and spread over both sides of a split burger bun, ensure it is all done. Put a plate lined with kitchen paper by the hob, make sure it is not near the hob at this point.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Pour enough oil into a saucepan. Heat until a small piece of bread becomes golden and crisp. This should happen straight away, makes it easier than waiting longer. Be careful when gently lowering the chicken into the hot oil, and cook for 3\u20134 minutes on each side, until the coating is deep gold and the chicken is completely cooked through. Drain on the paper-lined plate and leave to stand, this should only be for a couple of minutes, while you shred some iceberg lettuce and get out your pickles.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Put a handful of lettuce on the mayo on the bottom of the bun, top with the fried chicken, and add sauces if you&#8217;d like.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Banner and Image Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\">BBC<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recipe is courtesy of\u00a0BBC GoodFood.
