{"id":1068,"date":"2020-05-21T14:40:36","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T14:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/?p=1068"},"modified":"2021-11-25T11:03:22","modified_gmt":"2021-11-25T11:03:22","slug":"streusel-verses-strudel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/streusel-verses-strudel\/desserts\/","title":{"rendered":"Recipe for &#8216;Treacle &#038; Walnut Streusel Loaf&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Streusel verses Strudel<\/h3>\n<p>In baking and pastry making, a &#8216;streusel&#8217;, not to be confused with a strudel, is a crumbly sugary topping that is baked on the top of the likes of a muffin, loaf, pie or cake.\u00a0 The streusel like the strudel originates from Austria, but also like the strudel many central European countries have their own version.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a simple recipe to follow to make a streusel loaf:<\/p>\n<h3>Treacle and Walnut Streusel Loaf<\/h3>\n<h3>Ingredients:<\/h3>\n<h4>Filling and topping<\/h4>\n<p>100 g \/ 4 oz demerara sugar<br \/>\n25 g \/ 1 oz melted butter<br \/>\n100 g \/ 4 oz chopped walnuts<br \/>\n1 teaspoon ground cinnamon<\/p>\n<h4>Loaf<\/h4>\n<p>100 g \/ 4 oz black treacle<br \/>\n125 ml \/ \u00bc pint milk<br \/>\n2 large eggs, beaten<br \/>\n250 g \/ 10 oz self-raising flour<br \/>\n50 g \/ 2 oz butter<br \/>\n100 g \/ 4 oz stoned dates, chopped<\/p>\n<h3>Method:<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_1070\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1070\" class=\"wp-image-1070 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2020\/05\/shutterstock_149109986-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2020\/05\/shutterstock_149109986-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2020\/05\/shutterstock_149109986-1-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2020\/05\/shutterstock_149109986-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1070\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credit: Oldrich\/Shutterstock.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u2022 Grease an 80o g (2 lb) loaf tin<br \/>\n\u2022 Mix topping and filling ingredients together<br \/>\n\u2022 Blend the treacle, milk and beaten eggs together<br \/>\n\u2022 Sieve the flour into a bowl, rub in the butter, then add the dates<br \/>\n\u2022 Make a well in the centre of the mix, pour in the treacle mixture and then blend<br \/>\n\u2022 Place half of mixture into a prepared tin and sprinkle with half of chopped walnuts<br \/>\n\u2022 Place the rest of the mixture into the cake tin and sprinkle on the remaining walnuts.<br \/>\n\u2022 Bake in an oven on Gas Mark 4 (180 deg C) for 1 hour.<br \/>\n\u2022 Take from oven and leave in the tin for 5 minutes.
