Prada has announced its plans to launch a collection of nylon bags made from recycled plastic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fashion house has been using nylon for many items since it got renowned four decades ago. They launched the nylon “Vela”\u00a0backpack in 1984 and a nylon clothing collection a decade later.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new recycled collection will include six bags all made from synthetic fabric created by ocean plastic, fishing nets and textile fibre waste. It will be named “Re-Nylon” and by 2021 the company is aiming to ensure that all 700,000 meters of nylon they use is recycled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorenzo Bertelli, head of marketing and communication at Prada Group, said:<\/strong> \u201cIt\u2019s a massive reduction of nylon and a big impact in terms of sustainability,\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added:\u00a0<\/strong>“We want to do things not just for marketing reasons, but seriously, in big numbers.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The six bags include a belt bag, shoulder bag and two Prada backpacks. Bertelli saidusing reclaimed nylon is a “start of an era” for Prada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year the Italian fashion house announced it will be removing all real fur from its women’s collection by February 2020. They are taking a step to creating a environmentally friendly fashion which people hope other brands follow their footsteps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The recycled nylon products have been created in partnership with Italian synthetic fibre producer Aquafil. Aquafil have spent years developing nylon yarn from plastic waste. It claims that for every 10,000 tons of its trademarked Econyl thread, 70,000 barrels of oil are saved.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is not known when the products will be released but we do know that there will be a series of videos to show how the material is made when they are released.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
