A computer network is a network which allows nodes to share resources; in simpler terms, it is a way of connecting different devices that have access to the internet, allowing them to share data and resources.\u00a0Some examples of computer networks are; LAN<\/strong>, WAN (WLAN), and SAN.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

The main difference between these network types is the range of which they span over.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LAN<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LAN is the abbreviation for local area network. LANs are usually found in places like homes and schools, hence the term \u201clocal area.\u201d For LAN, Wi-Fi and Ethernet are the most common technologies used in a LAN\u00a0<\/span>network.\u00a0<\/span>Wireless LAN networks have become popular within households as you usually have a fast\u00a0<\/span>internet connection<\/span>\u00a0when connected to the network.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LAN is generally a reliable network type, but, for example if you have a big house, y<\/span>ou may have a poor connection in<\/span>\u00a0certain parts of the home<\/span>. But LAN networks are easy to install in the home and work place so they are the most popular network found around the common home.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WAN\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

WAN, or wide area network, is a network which spans over a large geographical distance, for example, a university campus or town or city. These are used to easily send and receive data by teachers, students, companies and even government bodies.<\/span>\u00a0The internet itself to some people is considered a WAN.<\/span>\u00a0In summary, a WAN is\u00a0<\/span>used to\u00a0<\/span>send and receive\u00a0<\/span>data over long distances, and between different LANs, MANs and other computer network<\/span>\u00a0types.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
